I fostered Demitri for just three weeks, and I almost gave in and adopted him. I thought he might cure me of my fostering addiction. But Don warned me... 'if you adopt him, that means no fostering. Nothing. Not even helping.'
So I didn't adopt him, because we foster about 15 dogs a year, and it didn't make sense to give all that up for the sake of one - even if he is almost the sweetest little dog in the world. The fact is that there are many sweetest little dogs in the world, and about every fourth or fifth one weakens my resolve not to adopt.
'Giving them up is painful, but you just bandage up with another one!'
